Botanicals, Clays and Minerals
Our soaps are bursting with skin friendly botanicals, clays and minerals.
You’ll find at least one clay in each of our Cold Process Soaps. It can help to detox the skin as well as acting as a light exfoliant. Added to our cleansing balm, it becomes an effective clay mask, and in our natural deodorant it absorbs excess moisture. Watch this space.
All of our Thistle and Clay range include White Kaolin Clay which has been shown to gently remove dead and dry skin cells, leaving you with glowing skin.
French Green Clay is the most absorbent of the coloured clays. It can help draw out impurities, cleanse the skin and help to normalise Sebum production. It is suitable for all skin types but particularly useful for oily and acne prone skins. Green Clay can also help with tissue repair and calm inflammation.
French Pink Clay contains Iron Oxide, Silica and trace elements. It can have a softening and toning effect on the skin, making it useful for all skin types but particularly useful for mature skins.
Bentonite Clay is a clay from naturally occurring volcanic ash sediments, and contains over 70 trace minerals. This clay is one of the most effective and powerful healing clays.
Purple Brazilian Clay’s characteristic mineral content gives it a unique purple colour. This clay has naturally occurring Copper, Selenium, Magnesium, Zinc and Manganese that can helpwith the nutrition of skin and maintain the skin's health. Trace elements such as Magnesium contribute to the formation of Collagen, essential to keeping skin looking younger. Purple clays contain naturally occurring pigments, their colour being achieved by variations in mineral content and oligoelements found in the soil. They don't contain any synthetic dyes or pigments.
Activated Charcoal in our recipes is obtained by burning coconut husks. The source material is burned at a very high temperature to form a lightweight mass of Carbonaceous Charcoal. It means that all the oxygen is removed from the source material through controlled oxidation and / or processing by steam. Thanks to this process, the charcoal expands creating a porous surface that traps toxins. Its natural ability to absorb has been boosted this way. That’s why this fine black powder has a higher efficiency and its maximum usability for the body.
It is effective in treating oily skin, acne, cleaning pores and removing unwanted oil from face and body (great for oily skin).
We love to incorporate Silk Protein in our soap. It gives a wonderful silky lather and can have water-binding properties for skin. Its two proteins, Sericin and Fibroin can help to repair and regenerate skin cells, reduce water loss and minimise sun damage.
Aloe Vera features in all our cold process soaps. It contains antioxidants, enzymes, Vitamins A and C, and it is highly anti-inflammatory, so can work well for acne prone and dry skin.
Oatmeal acts as an exfoliant as well as an anti-inflammatory. It can help with dry skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. We use it for its soothing and moisturising properties. It also works wonderfully in our nourishing cleansing balm as a gentle exfoliating scrub.
